Lebawit Lily Girma is an award-winning Ethiopian-American travel writer, photographer and author of several Caribbean guidebooks for Moon Travel Guides. Her writing and photography have been published in AFAR, CNN Travel, BBC, Delta Sky, Sierra Magazine, The Guardian, and Every Day With Rachael Ray, among others.

Her ten-year expertise ranges from cultural and adventure travel to community tourism and social impact, as well as solo female travel. She has been featured and quoted in numerous outlets, such as Oprah Magazine, National Geographic Traveler, AFAR, Travel Pulse and Readers’ Digest Canada, and on podcasts and radio shows, such as Amateur Traveler and World Nomads.

A self-professed “culture-holic,” Girma is a former corporate attorney who ditched her Washington DC office for the road in 2009 to pursue travel journalism. She is fluent in four languages, including French and Spanish, and has lived and studied in various countries , including Cote d’Ivoire and England, as well as Jamaica, Belize, and the Dominican Republic. She has also explored some 30+ countries around the world.

In addition to travel journalism, Lily has extensive experience working with travel brands and tourism boards, providing destination content and strategy. Since 2017, she is the Editor in chief of Belize’s main visitor magazine, Destination Belize, published by the Belize Tourism Industry Association, in partnership with the Belize Tourism Board.

Lily holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia Law School, and is the recipient of the 2016 Marcia Vickery Wallace Memorial Award for Excellence in Travel Journalism from the Caribbean Tourism Organization.
